In the colder months the airport of Girona is popular with skiers heading for the resorts in the Pyrenees such as Andorra (it is around a 3 hour drive to Arinsal in Andorra).

The City of Girona

Girona is a typical Catalan town, which has plenty to offer as a short-break location. Girona is built along the banks of the Onya River, and has the typical Spanish mix of a historic old town to the east of the river, and a modern shopping district to the west.

The old town district has a market on Tuesdays and Saturdays which sells a variety of local crafts and produce. Along the river in the old town there are a variety of cafes, restaurants and boutiques.

The narrow streets of Girona old town lead towards the historic cathedral, which overlooks the city offering some spectacular views.
